Director of People & Talent

We are looking for a Director of People & Talent to develop and execute strategies that help scale our unique culture, drive business growth, and enable our teammates to do the best work of their careers.  This is our first people operations hire, and is therefore a hands-on position that will not have any direct reports for the first year.  This position will initially report to the CEO.  

Key Responsibilities

Organizational Development

  • Organizational Planning:  Implement a planning process that anticipates hiring needs as we grow while maintaining efficiency and effectiveness across the organization.  
  • Recruiting:  Lead recruiting efforts, including managing employer brand, job posts and interviewing processes.  Improve efficiency of our recruiting efforts over time by effectively attracting and screening high potential candidates. Our hiring priority is not about volume; rather, we want each and every hire to be well-aligned, successful and impactful for the employee and the company.
  • Diversity and Inclusion:  Make sure we are reaching out to diverse talent pools and building a company that allows everyone to succeed.

Employee Experience

  • Talent Development:  Implement a strategy and approach for career paths, development, and retention for across groups.  Understand individuals’ objectives and goals, define and communicate expectations.  Manage the review and feedback processes.
  • Culture:  Develop an understanding of our culture, values and operating principles, and then help to codify and embed these in the day to day workings of the organization.


People Operations

  • Develop and implement high-quality, standardized onboarding and offboarding processes, including for both salaried and hourly team members.
  • Manage certain benefits programs administration and compliance; potentially manage payroll over time.
  • Participate in anticipating, addressing and resolving any employee relations challenges that may arise.
  • Develop a framework and provide insight with regard to compensation ranges within the company and at comparable companies, levels and roles.


  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including: (a) at least 5 years in a leadership role related to People Operations at a company with marketing, technology, design/creative and operations teams; and (b) at least 3 years of non-HR experience at a company with a high performance culture
  • A mix of large company experience and entrepreneurial/growth stage experience is a plus
  • High level of personal maturity, EQ and empathy
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to handle direct conversations about sensitive topics
  • Ability to thrive in an unstructured and dynamic environment
  • Passion for helping companies and team members thrive over the long term
