We are looking to hire our first Manager of Business & Legal Affairs to help us move faster to review and execute agreements and accelerate the growth of our business. This position will work closely with business team leaders to understand and integrate commercial objectives and legal documentation. This is BOTM’s first full time legal hire, so a successful candidate will have a lot of runway for promotion based on success and accomplishment over time. Note that this position is an individual contributor, so we are seeking someone with a hands-on, detail-oriented approach.

You will:

Manage review, negotiation and execution process for vendor, marketing and creative agreements
Build out template library for creative and marketing engagements (e.g., influencer agreements, sponsorship agreements, etc.)
Manage content licensing functions
Establish and manage consistent processes for agreement execution
Establish and maintain a centralized repository of executed contracts and a calendar of upcoming contractual obligations
Project manage product-related initiatives as appropriate by collaborating with relevant internal groups
Over time, manage responsibilities in compliance, tax and other legal situations
Provide legal support on special operational and strategic projects
Identify and work with external counsel as needed

Requirements:

J.D. degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience (prior in-house / growth company experience is a plus)
Understanding of media/IP related rights is a plus
Admitted and active with New York State Bar is a plus
Understanding of regulations relevant to eCommerce companies is a plus
Detail-oriented, organized, efficient and resourceful with strong follow-through skills
Practical, business-oriented approach to problem solving
Strong desire to learn our business and function as part of an interdisciplinary team
Fan of new release fiction and contemporary authors
